Why rare pieces matter
Each collect-to-win prize needs every piece in its color set. The common pieces show up all the time. The rare piece is printed in tiny numbers, so that's what decides who wins. If you peel Boardwalk (#922), you only need Park Place (#921) to complete the Dark Blue set.
Can I buy or trade rare pieces?
No. The official rules ban trading or selling game pieces, and doing it can void your prize. Be careful of anyone selling "Boardwalk" online.
